Katherine Kendall

MADISON - Katherine Purcell Kendall, 91, of Madison, passed away in her sleep on Monday. May 30th, 2011, at Karmenta Center in Madison, from pneumonia. She was born Katherine Bernadine Purcell on March 24, 1920, to parents Martin and Bridget Purcell in Davenport, Iowa. She attended St. Pauls Elementary School, and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School l in Davenport. Katie was a member of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Phi Mu Kappa sorority when she was crowned the 1945 "Queen of the Yuletide" in Davenport. A few years later, while working atAlcoa, she met her husband, Robert Kendall, and moved to Madison. After living in her home for over 50 years, she moved into Frost Woods Senior Apartments in nearby Monona. Katherine was an active member of the Dane County Homemakers Association, as well as the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She also frequently volunteered at the Monona Senior Center, and used to be a Cub Scout den mother. Katherine is survived by her sons, Paul J. Kendall of Chicago, Ill., and David B. Kendall of Boca Raton, Fla.; grandchildren, Elysia (Kendall) Sheehan of Chicago, Ill., Anson Kendall of San Francisco, Calif., and Natalie Kendall and Karlie Kendall of Hobe Sound, Fla.; twin great-grandchildren, Emmett and Katherine Sheehan; and extended family, cousins, nephews, and nieces throughout the United States. Katherine was preceded in death by sisters, Marie, Dorothy, and Annetta; and brothers, John, Michael, Robert, William, Paul, and Hugh. Memorial services will be held at FROST WOODS SENIOR APTS. (Bldg. 1), 101 Frost Woods Rd., in the 'Common Room,' in Monona, from 1p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday July 10, 2011.
