Obituary
MONONA - Carl A. Thompson, age 92, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 30, 1918, in Stambaugh, Mich., the son of Arthur and Jennie (Greenlund) Thompson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Carl married Helen Bergquist on January 17, 1948, in Chicago, Ill. Carl worked as an accountant for Oscar Mayer Foods for 38 years, retiring in 1978. He is survived by his sister, Jeannette; daughters, Marilyn (Tom) McGuire, Carol (Rick) Walters, and Susan (Rick) Vollbrecht; his grandchildren, David (Katy), Jennifer, Nicole, Rachel, Benjamin, Joseph, Kristine and Alexander; and great-granddaughter, Myla Grace. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; son, Paul; granddaughter, Mylissa; and sisters, Hazel and Dorothy. Funeral services will be held at BETHANY EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 301 Riverside Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, with the Rev. David Carlson presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Bethany Evangelical Free Church.
