Obituary

MADISON-Laura Genevieve Barden (nee Henning) age 94, passed away on March 28, 2011. She was born in Mazomanie, the daughter of Walter and Maude Henning. Laura married Joseph James Barden in June, 1940. He preceded her in death in April, 1959. Laura worked in retail at Manchester\'s Department Store and later at W.J. Rendalls for many years. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish and Madison Catholic Women\'s Club, for whom she served as treasurer. She also volunteered at St. Mary\'s Hospital. Laura was a courageous and independent woman who devoted much of her life to providing a loving home for her children. Widowed at a very young age, she overcame tremendous hardship throughout her life but always kept a positive outlook as she raised her family. Her energy and determination were inspiring to all who knew her, and she was dearly loved by many friends and acquaintances over the years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and entertaining and had a special fondness for playing bridge. She always carried herself with flair and style, even into her 90\'s. She was a lady of true grace and beauty and will be genuinely missed by all who knew her. Laura is survived by her loving children: Joseph (Joanne) Barden of Eau Claire; Mary (Steven) Kramer of Waukesha; and Kathleen (John) Rindt of El Paso, TX. She is further survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren as well as a brother, Orville Henning, of Sun Lakes, AZ and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Joseph Barden, Laura was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Patricia Anne Welch, her parents, her sisters Lucille Thurner and Marlene Tiedeman, and a brother Woodrow Henning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 405 S. Owen Drive, Madison at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, with Monsignor Kenneth Fiedler presiding. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff at Ingleside Nursing Home in Mount Horeb for their outstanding and loving care of Mom. They did an excellent job of keeping her comfortable as well as communicating with the family about her condition. We owe them a debt of gratitude. The family also wishes to thank the staff of Hospice Care as well for their diligent and compassionate presence. Laura was an amazing woman. We loved our lunches and times with her and our Mom, Veronica Tisserand. She was a great friend to Mom and all she knew. She will be missed greatly!!
