To the family of Virginia Wolters, My name is Andrea Stein. My dog Shayna and I are visiting pet volunteers with HospiceCare, Inc. Clare Bridge is one of the facilities we visit. About a year ago, one of Virginia's friends was visiting her and noticed Shayna. She asked if I would stop by after seeing my assigned hospice patients. I was delighted to comply and I continued to visit Virginia until three weeks ago. We had many wonderful conversations about literature, nature, gardening, animals and the public school system. While we spoke, my dog Shayna would lay quietly and let Virginia pet her. I always looked forward to our visits. Virginia was knowledgeable about such a wide variety of subjects and she always taught me something new. Her understated dignity and charm has left an impression on me. She was a model of life long learning and an inspirational example of aging with grace. Two weeks ago, one of your family members (I think it was her daughter) stopped me in the hall to pet Shayna. She remarked that her mother would have loved a dog visit but was not coherent at that time. I am sorry I didn't ask her mother's name. Otherwise, I would have been able to tell her in person that Shayna and I did in fact visit with Virginia regularly. Please accept my condolences on your loss. Virginia will be deeply missed. I feel honored to have met her. My thoughts and sympathies are with Virginia's family and friends during this difficult time.
