Obituary

RACINE/MADISON-Brian Anderson, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 11, 2011. He was born on July 19, 1945, in Rockford, Ill., the son of LeRoy and Hervor (Bengston) Anderson. He graduated from Rockford East High School in 1963, and from Murray State University, Ky. in 1970. Brian taught and coached in Racine for 15 years, then left teaching to start a business. In 1988, he went to work at Johnson International, both in JI Property Management and Johnson Bank, and in 1999, joined S.C. Johnson and Son, Inc., where he worked in community leadership until his retirement in 2009. Brian was a very involved and committed member of the Racine community. He was an active member of the Downtown Racine Corporation, serving on the board in several capacities; he was also active in Habitat for Humanity, Racine Zoological Society, St. Andrew Lutheran Church, and Racine Interfaith Coalition. Brian served as an alderman in Racine for two terms and was a water commissioner. He was currently a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Madison, where he had agreed to serve on the church council. He enjoyed biking, golfing, photography, playing guitar, being in nature, and playing with his two grandsons. Brian had such a big heart, and spending time with his family and close friends was very important to him. He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Joyce; daughters, Erica and Karla (Scott) Schweickhardt; and grandsons, Chance and Jaxon. Brian was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister. A memorial service will be held at ST. ANDREW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1015 Four Mile Road, Racine, at 12 noon (a lunch will follow) on Saturday, March 19, 2011, with the Rev. Michael Mueller presiding. Visitation will be held at ST. ANDREW LUTHERAN CHURCH at 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. A prayer service will be held at ADVENT LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7118 Old Sauk Road, Madison at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2011, with the Rev. Jeff Wild presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the CDLS foundation, Habitat for Humanity, or a charity of the donors choice. Our deepest condolences on the recent loss of Brian. He will be sorely missed. I worked with him when he was managing JPM and I was the network/telecom manager for Johnson International. Brian was one of the most personable and connected person I had the luxury of knowing in my Racine career days. God Bless.
