Obituary
Woods, June M.
MADISON-June M. Woods, age 86, passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, from complications from surgery, following a fall. June Faye Muriel Woods was born the sixth of six girls to John and Emma Reierson, in DeForest, Wisconsin, on June 23, 1924. Her family lived on a farm on Cuba Valley Road. When she was three years old, her family moved to Madison where her mother ran a store and her father was a plastering contractor. June attended Holy Cross Christian School until the eighth grade and graduated from Madison East High School in 1941. June married William F. Woods, a handsome young Army Lieutenant, on January 29, 1946, in Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She and Bill moved to California where they had four sons, then to Missouri where they had a fifth, before moving to Appleton, Wisc., in 1960. June loved nature and the arts, which was part of her motivation to take art classes while both working and bringing up five boys in the early 1960s. She became an accomplished painter in many media, but especially as a water colorist, and her paintings are displayed and appreciated in many homes and businesses throughout the Midwest. Her love of painting and nature carried over to her love of quilting after retirement. June was an avid tennis player and cross country skier. She retired as head secretary in the science department of Lawrence University in Appleton. She moved to the Madison area in 1992 to be closer to family. June is survived by her five sons, Mark Woods, Scott (Pattie) Woods, Brock (Jane) Woods, Jonathan (Lisa) Woods, and Shawn Woods; grandsons, Sam Woods, Justin Woods, Paul Woods, Adam Woods (Alyssa Wright, fiance), and John Woods; granddaughters, Sarah (Earl) Ehrhardt, Erin (Mark) Petersen, Andrea Woods (Luke Johnson), Briana Woods, and Kelsey Woods; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Ardelle Steimel; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Jeanette, Thelma, Esther, and Rose. Visitation andCelebration of Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 at Roselawn Memorial Park. June loved the outdoors and enjoyed working in her garden. In lieu of flowers, please consider bringing a live plant to display at the visitation. Remembrances can be made in her name to Olbrich Botanical Gardens Society, 3330 Atwood Ave., Madison, WI 53704. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Mary's Hospital for their care the last four weeks.

Missing my Aunt June. Perfect photo of her. I'm quite sure she is hearing and taking comfort in every farewell. Hope my cousins and their families can all do the same...
