Obituary
Middleton - Gerene M. Nelson, age 55, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. She was born on October 2, 1955 in Portage, WI., the daughter of Darrell and Darlene (Zick) Nelson. After graduating from Brodhead High School in 1974, she attended MATC. Gerene was employed with WEAC as a staff assistant for over 20 years. She married Tom Fineran on June 29, 2002. Gerene had a variety of interests including reading and gardening. She enjoyed her dogs and cats, but most of all loved the times spent with her family. Survivors include her husband Tom, her children, Elizabeth and Wolfgang Jacobsen; her parents, Darrell and Darlene Nelson; her sister, Andrea (Peter) Manderle; her brothers, Mark (Patty) and Keith (Barbara); her paternal grandmother, Thelma Nelson, nieces and nephews, Whitney Muchow, Trent Manderle, Christopher, Taylor, Aubrey, Emily and Michael Nelson; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Ludolph Nelson and maternal grandparents, Albert and Ethel Zick. Funeral services will be held at ST. LUKES LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton, at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 5, 2011 with Rev. Heather Lampert presiding. Visitation will be on Friday, March 4 from 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., and also on Saturday, from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made the Susan G. Komen Foundation or the Dane County Humane Society. You fought a long and valiant fight, now rest peacefully in Gods light.

I shall always gratefully remember that at the time of my own breast cancer diagnosis in 2002, Gerene served as a most supportive person. She sent me cards, took me to lunch, and walked alongside in the Race for the Cure. It is difficult for me to think of an individual with a more positive outlook on life! My condolences to all of Gerene's loving family...most particularly our dear friends and neighbors, Uncle Duane and Aunt Lois Nelson.

We are so sorry to hear about Gerene. We were friends many years ago. Gerene and I got together a few years ago to catch up with each other's life. We will always remember the fun times we had together. She will be missed.
