Obituary
MADISON - Peter Ole Ofstun, age 83, of Madison, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, March 18, 2011, at HospiceCare Inc. after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 2, 1928, the fourth of eight children born to Carl and Malena (Vee) Ofstun in Soldiers Grove. Peter proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Madison Business College and met his wife there. Peter was united in marriage to Eloise Murray on Aug. 27, 1955, at Montfort Methodist Church. He worked for National Mutual Benefit, retiring in 1992, as treasurer. Peter was a member of Lakeview Moravian Church for more than 50 years. He enjoyed simply being outdoors, walking, reading and traveling. His favorite trip was returning to Norway to visit his family. Peter is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eloise; sons, Richard (Lucille) Ofstun of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Ronald (Cynthia) Ofstun of Madison; grandchildren, Alison (Oday) Albakri of Manhattan, Kan. and Nicholas Ofstun of Madison, Emily and Adam Ofstun of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great-grandson, Hatim Albakri; brother, Marvin Ofstun; sisters, Eleanor (Roy) Wagner, Caroline (Arnold) Erickson, Margaret Furley and Sonja (Arnie) Skrede. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Myron (Shirley) Ofstun; sister, Edythe Branstad; brother-in-law, Jim Furley; and nephews, Douglas Wagner and Steven Erickson. Funeral services will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST, TREE OF LIFE CHAPEL, 5565 Tancho Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 26, 201, with the Rev. Staci Marrese-Wheeler presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens, with military rites being conducted. Visitation will be at the TREE OF LIFE CHAPEL, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at St. Marys Renal Center for all their loving care of Peter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakeview Moravian Church or HospiceCare Inc.

My condolences to all of you, our good Norwegian neighbors. I still call my brother "Yimmy" as your dad used to do. I often helped Pete deliver ice to those who had "ice boxes" I also followed him as the "paper boy" for LaX Tribune. 20 cents a week I think. God bless you all. Richard McGiney
