Obituary

OREGON- George Rowe, age 84, of Oregon passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011. He was born on April 2, 1926, in Fitchburg, the son of Edward and Emily (Chark) Rowe. George was born and raised on a farm and farmed his entire life. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1944. George served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947 during World War II. He married Anita Michael on Oct. 6, 1962, in Madison. George was an active member of the Oregon FFA Alumni. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening. George was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Anita of Oregon; daughter, Mary (David) Rowe-Schmitz of Fond du Lac; son, Steve (Kimberly) of Columbus; grandchildren, Sarah and Michael Rowe and Anthony and Aaron Schmitz; siblings, Donald Rowe, Arthur (Betty) Rowe, Jerry (Arlene) Rowe, Waunetta Pollow and Emily (Roger) Krueger; and many nieces, nephews and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents; son, James in 1992; brother, William (Lena) Rowe; sister, Eileen (Stanley) Schneider; brother-in-law, Arnold Pollow; and nephew, Bruce Krueger. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHNS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 E. Netherwood, Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, with the Rev. Paul Markquart presiding. Burial will be held at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park Street, Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer Association for Research, HospiceCare Inc., St. Johns Lutheran Church or the Oregon FFA. The family would like to extend special thank yous to Dr. Douglas Smith at the Verona Clinic; Skaalen Friendship Circle; GTU at MMHI; Ruth and staff at Fountain Head Home-Ashwabay House; South Madison Coalition of Aging; Ruby Team at Hospice; Pastor Paul Markquart of St Johns Lutheran Church; and all of our wonderful family and friends who have showered us with their love and support throughout this long journey...
