Mr. Wayne F. Hemberger

MADISON- Wayne F. Hemberger, age 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at HospiceCare. He was born on Feb. 15, 1929, in Waukesha, the son of Ernest and Gladys (Martinson) Hemberger. Wayne graduated from East High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Joan Widholm on Sept. 9, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Wayne served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953, serving part of that time as a teacher in Germany. He received a bachelors degree in 1952, and an MBA in 1956, both from UW-Madison. He then taught at New Mexico State, Penn State and later at Edinboro College. Wayne was an avid gardener and loved sharing his plants with others. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time outdoors. Wayne is survived by his wife, Joan; three children, David, Janet (John) Caron, and Barbara (Jeff) Foster; three grandchildren, Mary, Danny and Ben; brother, Verne (Darlene) Hemberger; sister, Anna Marie (David) Kennedy; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial with military rites will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2011, and from noon until the time of service on Monday.
