Obituary
Madison - Thomas Wesley Osterberg, died Saturday, Feb.19, 2011, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's/Dementia. He was born in Green Bay on December 18, 1932, the eldest son of Wesley and Margaret (Kocha) Osterberg. He grew up in Florence and graduated high school in 1950. Tom graduated from UW-Madison in 1954 with a BS in mathematics. While in college he was student manager of the UW Baseball team. Following graduation he served in the Army, primarily in Ft. Belvoir, VA then studied computer programming in New York and worked for System Development Corporation in Madison and Fairfax, VA. Tom was united in marriage to Marian Lee in Fairfax, VA in 1962 and they returned to Madison in 1963 so he could complete his Master's Degree in Math/Education. He taught at Cherokee Jr. High, Cherokee Middle School and West High School, retiring in 1993. Tom was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He loved to walk and he loved to teach. Tom was a patient math teacher, Boy Scout leader, Little League Coach, 9th grade basketball coach and season ticket holder at the Green Bay Packer games since he was 16. Tom was a caring, loving son, brother, husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Marian; sons, Erik Osterberg, Madison, Stephen (Sally) Osterberg, Menasha, and Peter Osterberg, Madison and five grandchildren; Alexis and Wesley Osterberg, Menasha and Anthony, Aaron and Michael Osterberg, Madison. He is further survived by his brothers, Richard (Wanda) Osterberg, Florence and Terry (Nancy) Osterberg, Tecumseh, MO., and numerous other members of his extended family. Tom was preceded in death by his parents.Memorial services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison at 11:30 AM on Saturday, February 26, 2011 with the Reverend William R. White presiding. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be given in his name to Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, WI 53703. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
