Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE - Everett M. Kong, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at HospiceCare after battling a long illness. He was born on March 11, 1918, in Hannaford, N.D., to the late Ole and Mabel (Strom) Kong. They relocated to the Stoughton area where Everett graduated from Stoughton High School in 1938. He went on to attend Bethany Lutheran College. After college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served from 1942 until 1946 in World War II and was honorably discharged, earning the rank of sergeant. He settled in Madison and married Marjorie Starner of Baraboo on Jan. 20, 1951, and they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. He worked at Wolff Kubly & Hirsig for 30 years, retiring as service manager. Everett was passionate about sports and loved singing, dancing and bowling. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends. Everett was an active member of Lake Edge Lutheran Church for 55 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie; son, Ronald (Lynne) of Oregon; two daughters, Cheryl Rudolph of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Carla Wollin (fianc, Rick Hensen) of Marshall; sister, Adeline Brickson; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Kong and Ann (William) Bevens; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Lyle and Orlin Kong. Funeral services will be held at LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4032 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011, with Pastor Shirley Funk presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
