Melvin Bieber

MIDDLETON-Melvin Bieber was born in Oshkosh, on May 6, 1922 to Sarah and Max Bieber. He grew up in Omro, WI until his college years. He entered the University of Wisconsin in the fall of 1940 until the outbreak of World War II. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant-Radio Operator on a B-29 in the Army Air Force from February 1942 until February 1946. He returned to the University and earned his law degree in 1949. As a lawyer he practiced in Milwaukee, Portage, Columbus and Freeport, IL. In 1964, he married Elly Reed, at the time moving from Freeport to Madison where he finished his years as a lawyer. Mel and Elly enjoyed many travels, participated in several local ballroom dance clubs, and often attended jazz concerts. Mel is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dave Myers, granddaughters, Molly (Carey) Bernier and Amanda Myers, great-granddaughters, Elle and Sophie Bernier, sisters-in-law, Hilda Bieber and Peggy Bieber and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two older siblings, Harold and Norman, and his wife Elly. Memorial services will be held at the LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE LIVING CHRIST,110 N. Gammon Road, Madison on 5:00 PM on Friday, May 6, 2011 with the Reverend Daniel C. Kowert presiding. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 PM until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Living Christ. Mel was a man who loved his Lord, a faithful servant of God. He also loved this country and was a very proud defender of her in World War II. May these special attributes be his legacy.
