OREGON-Duane A. Miller, age 78, prominent realtor and developer, died peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital of complications associated with COPD and Pulmonary Hypertension. Duane was born on April 15, 1932, at St. Marys Hospital in Madison, the son of Sally (Krogfus) and Scott Miller. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1950, and UW-Madison in 1954, with a degree in Animal Husbandry. In 1952, Duane won the International Livestock Meat Judging Contest and served as chairman of the Little International in 1954. He was a member of the AGR fraternity. Upon graduation he was a commissioned officer in the ROTC and served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957. On June 25, 1960, he married the love of his life, Shirley Mae Renander. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this last June. After military service, Duane was a cattle buyer for Rath Packing and then American Beef Packers, both located in Iowa. In 1972, he and Shirley moved their family back to his hometown of Oregon, where with his brother, Scott, farmed and later developed the Ravenoaks and Hampton Hills subdivisions. In 1991, Duane retired into real estate. At his death, he was still actively working for Bunbury & Associates. Duane was very involved in the farming and holstein cattle community. He has served on the World Dairy Expo Board, the Dane County Fair Board, the Dane County Holstein Breeders Board, and was a 4-H leader for many years. He was also a member of the Elks Club in Madison. As a faithful member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Oregon, he served as co-chair of the building committee and stewardship drives. He also was a long-time usher until recent years. In his younger years, Duane was an avid golfer. In his older years, he learned how to snow and water ski. An eternal Badger fan, he and Shirley had season football and basketball tickets for many years. They enjoyed going to many bowl games and Big Ten Playoffs in Indianapolis. Duane loved his family and so enjoyed being around his grandchildren. Dear Shirley, Charlie, and Marie,
We are so very sorry to learn of Mr. Miller's passing. He was a truly fine and honorable man, and a quick friend to those met him - winning you over with his quick wit and charm.
I have very fond memories of Mr. Miller, starting when I first met him in his home in the 1980s as Charlie, I, and another friend (Dave G.) delivered a pool table that we barely squeezed down the stairs into the basement of Mr. Miller's house. Mr. Miller was always a light-hearted soul with a story or a joke to make you chuckle, even if he'd just met you. I really liked him a lot, and even though I haven't seen him for 15+ years, I am very saddened by his passing and miss him. I wish I would have had more chances to interact with him.
Charlie: My profound condolences to you. I didn't spend a lot of time with your dad, but I got a good sense of who he was in just a short time. I am crying as I type this. He was a wonderful man. What a great place the world would be if everyone would values, charm, and goodness of Mr. Miller.

Dear Shirley,
I was so very sorry to hear of Duane's passing. We worked together for a very long time and I felt very privileged and honored to have known and worked with both of you; and Duane, himself, such a wonderful, kind and accomplished man. The last line of his obituary was so fitting of Duane - always with a joke in his pocket or a story to share. I am sure his presence will be sorely missed at Bunbury and Associates and so deeply by you, Shirley - his beautiful wife, and his family - children and grandchildren, etc. I hope you take comfort in the memories you shared together in the 50 years you were together with Duane and also in knowing that he is at peace now and God's loving arms. With my deepest sympathies. ~Joy (Chapman) Bennett

Shirley and family--- Not too many days go by where I don't recall something about Duane. He showed me the value of a good story, a sincere smile, and a happy disposition. When I knew nothing about land values, or the process of land sales, I turned to Duane and directed business to him. Eventually he directed me to learn more. Images I have in my mind of Duane will always include his smile and the pink slips of messages in his shirt pocket. Duane's cattle trader image showed me the importance of being myself. I'm grateful to have known Duane Miller.tom meyer
