Obituary
DEERFIELD- Donald E. Larson, age 79, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital. He was born on April 22, 1931, in Rio, the son of Theodore and Cora (Waffel) Larson. Don was a U.S. Army veteran having proudly served his country during the Korean War. He married Darlene Koch on Feb. 4, 1961, in Madison. Don was employed with Harold Digney Masonry for many years and later took ownership of the business, renaming it Don E. Larson Masonry. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and watching sports, especially the Packers and baseball. Don loved the time spent with his family and especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren. In addition to Darlene, his wife of 49 years, he is survived by his five children, Lori (Chuck) Noel, Mary (Mark) Olson, Donald S. (Donna) Larson, Brian (Laura) Larson and Trish (Brian) Coughlin; grandchildren, Matt, Kristin, Chad, Cassandra, Ryan, Courtney, Amanda, Brooke, Nicole, Heather, Michael and Bryor; great-granddaughter, Chloe; sister, Carol Zins; and brothers, Claire, Theodore (Rosie) and Ernie (Loraine). Don was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Adeline, Bernice and June; and brother, Elgin. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the SICU Staff of the VA Hospital for their care of Don.
