Obituary

Tiedt, William F.MADISON - William F. "Bill" Tiedt, age 81, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at HospiceCare. He was born on Nov. 25, 1929, in Madison, the son of Barbara (Breuch) and William F. Tiedt. Bill lived in the same house he was born in on Milwaukee Street for 33 years. He attended Emerson grade school and graduated from Madison East High School in June of 1948. In July of 1948 he started work at Wisconsin Telephone Co. and worked there until his retirement in 1985. Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, where he maintained telephone communications for the signal corp and rose to the rank of Sargent First Class. Bill was united in marriage to Patricia A. Prochaska on Aug. 3, 1963, in Tomah, at St Mary's Catholic Church. They had two children, Douglas and Karen, of whom he was very proud. Bill enjoyed woodworking, automobiles, and got a lot of satisfaction out of repairing things. He had a large collection of big band music which he enjoyed listening to. Bill also enjoyed going on trips, vacationing in the North woods and camping. He is survived by his son, Douglas F. (Theresa Fishler); and daughter, Karen L. Tiedt. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his father, who died when Bill was quite young; his mother; and his only sibling, his brother, Joe. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Fitchburg, WI 53711. Sorry to hear of the passing on Bill. He was my godfather and as I was growing up he always remembered me on special days like my birthday, high school graduation and similar events. I have many fond memories of times being at his home on Meadowlark Dr.
