Obituary

MADISON-Gordon F. Hermsdorf, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at his home. He was born on Jan. 15, 1932, in Cambridge, the son of Rudolph and Adeline (Wollin) Hermsdorf. Gordon joined the U. S. Army in April 1951, and guarded the Panama Canal Zone during the Korean conflict. He was united in marriage to Ruth Knickmeier on July 28, 1951, at their home. Gordon and Ruth worked the Knickmeier family farm. After retiring from farming, he went to work for Woodmans. Gordon was a charter member of the Hope Rod and Gun Club, and a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church. He loved gardening, hunting, and attending the fairs with his grandkids. Gordon is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Duane (Carol) and Dean; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Tara), Chad (Sarah), Joshua and Emma; four great-grandchildren, Addison, Cayden, Brayden and Riley; sister, Janet Koch; brother, Harvey (Pat); sisters-in-law, Lillian Hermsdorf (John Clayton) and Norma (Gary) Hanson; brother-in-law, Robert Knickmeier; two special aunts, Ruth Griggs and Evelyn Zechzer; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frederick; brother-in-law, Richard Koch; sisters-in-law, Irene and Wanda Knickmeier; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Burdean Knickmeier. Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Highway AB, McFarland, at 11 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, with the Rev. Chris Lee-Thompson presiding. Burial will follow at Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Madison Veterans Firing Squad. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery Association, Hope Lutheran Church, or HospiceCare Inc. I have happy memories of Sunday gatherings at your parents' home, dances, weddings and many good times and lots of laughter; I'm sure you do too and so glad of our lunch together in August, and our heartfelt sympathy to Ruth, Harvey & Pat, Janet, Dean, Duane and all the families.
