Obituary

Mowery, Jean MADISON - Jean Mowery, age 91, passed away on Thursday, Dec.23, 2010, at HospiceCare Inc. She was born on Oct. 14, 1919, in Iowa City, the daughter of Merrill and Lola Gilman. Jean attended Linden school in Iowa county. After graduation, she moved to Madison. Jean married Jess Mowery who served in the Navy for six years and then moved to Madison, where he later retired from UW Hospitals. Jean worked at Oscar Mayer's in the traffic and billing departments. In her later years, she worked at Kohls grocery store and downtown Madison at Manchester's until it closed. Jean enjoyed gardening, flowers and crafts. She was a member of Lakeview Moravian Church and VFW No. 7591 Auxiliary. Jean is survived by two sons, Dennis (Sandy Schaffner) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Scott (Tina) of Pleasant Springs; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry; husband, Jess in 1992; her parents; and a brother, Donald, who died at an early age after his tour of World War II. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, with the Rev. Staci Marrese-Wheeler presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc.
