Obituary
Verona M. White, age 90, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in Waunakee. She was born on June 5, 1920, in Dunn County, the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Herbst) Behnke. She married John R. White on October 12, 1937. Verona and John owned the Norris Court Grocery and Deli for a very long time. The "store" was a center piece in the White home, often with long hours, as Verona and John had a strong desire to serve the neighborhood and community. Verona and John instilled in their family a strong work ethic which is reflected today in their children. Verona also served with John in various volunteer roles and was a member and involved in the Monona United Methodist Church, The East Side Club, and The Elks Club. Verona had an appreciation and passion for people and also found herself affiliated with many wonderful work groups including the folks from Greyhound Bus and Stop N Go. Never one to sit still, Verona enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, knitting, quilting and numerous crafts. Most recently she enjoyed the bingo games with all the residents and staff at Sylvan Crossings. Verona will be deeply missed and is survived by her children, Arlyn R. (Janet) White of San Diego, Calif., Betty A. Walrath of Madison, William J. (Margot) White of England, and Nancy J. White of St. Paul, Minn.; grandchildren, Teresa (Randy) Beghin, John (Maureen) Walrath, Adam (Vanessa) White, Todd (Brandi) White, Tyler (Chris) White, and Emily (Karl) Sevig; great-grandchildren, Ryan (Heather Schultz) Stoflet, Joey Stoflet, Nicole , Shane, and Ian Walrath, Gavin and Carter White, Audrey and Lauren White, and Hannah White; and great-great grandchildren, Savannah, Adryan, and Aaliyah. She was preceded in death by her parents; inehusband; brothers, Harold, Frederick, Robert, and Elwyn; and sisters, Lila and Lanita. Funeral services will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, with the Rev. David Byers-Dent presiding. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare.
