Obituary
MADISON-Jean-Pierre "J.P." Tremelat, age 69, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at home with his wife, Sharon, by his side. J.P. was born in Marseille, France on Dec. 17, 1940, the son of Victor Tremelat and Lucienne Jonquier. He graduated from high school in France and served in the French Air Force from 1959 to 1962. His training was in precision mechanics. He had the opportunity to move to the U.S. in 1970 and became a citizen in 1976. J.P. moved to Madison in 1984. He worked for Arctic Glacier (previously Hometown Ice) for almost 20 years. J.P. met his wife, Sharon (nee Shimeck and previously Peter) of Milwaukee, when they both worked at Hometown Ice. Mutual friends suggested they should go on a date and it was a wonderful match. They married on Aug. 18, 1990 and celebrated their 20th anniversary this summer. J.P. was hard working and loved to work with his hands. He was artistic, creative and could build anything. He enjoyed gardening and he was very proud of his small orchard. J.P. had many plans after his retirement in 2006, including a 20th anniversary trip to Hawaii, watercolor painting, taking his granddaughter to Disneyland, and moving to Arizona with Sharon. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, and there was not enough time to fulfill all of his dreams. He received excellent care from Dr. Sanyal and the oncology nurses at Dean Clinic and his hospice team. J.P. faced his challenges with unbelievable courage. J.P. is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Valerie Tremelat and her husband, Justin Cummins of Minneapolis, Minn.; granddaughter, Elodie Cummins; sister, Christiane (Gilbert) Alifonso of St. Zacharie, France; step-sons, Ronald George Peter II of Milwaukee, and Michael Peter of San Diego, Calif.; Valerie's mother, Sally Hestad of Madison; mother-in-law, Edna Shimeck; and relatives in France. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or HospiceCare Inc.

Sharon and family:
It was indeeed a pleasure to have known JP and worked with him at Hometown and later Arctic Glacier.
JP's attention to detail helped countless customers in both the oil business and the ice business. I particularly enjoyed the pride he took in his penmanship- a lost art today.
He was a very interesting man, appreciating his Fench heritage as well as the blessings he realized living in the US. A true Cosmopolitan Man!
In closing, JP was a man you could count on daily.
Au Revoir JP!
