Bryant, Janet (Coon)STOUGHTON - Janet (Coon) Bryant, age 91, of Stoughton, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010. She was born on May 11, 1919, in Stoughton, the daughter of Roy and Lula (Estes) Coon. Janet was a lifelong resident of Stoughton and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1937. She attended "The Cradle" in Evanston, Ill. for infant care training. Janet worked in child care in Evanston prior to returning to Stoughton and worked at Stoughton Hospital as an infant care nurse. In 1960, she married Ed Bryant and together they enjoyed traveling, including several trips to Africa and Europe prior to his death in 1972. In 1979, Janet married Loren Gilbert and he preceded her in death in 1998. Janet was a member of Stoughton United Methodist Church and their Friendship Circle. She was also a member of the Stoughton Hospital Auxiliary, the Venus Chapter of the Eastern Star No. 16, and the Stoughton Country Club. Janet will be remembered for her caring and generous nature and her support of numerous charitable organizations throughout Wisconsin and in particular, the Stoughton community. Her generosity has touched many, both directly and indirectly. Her caring spirit and desire to give back to others will continue through the Edwin E. and Janet L. Bryant Foundation Inc., which she established. Janet is survived by nieces, nephews, and their families, Mary Kay Rutlin, Paul (Lisa) Coon, Nancy (Bernard) Borchert, Robert (Jodi) Coon, James (Lori) Coon, Kay Bryant (Eric) Lysne, and Betty Bryant (Gene) Henry; and niece-in-law, Linda Coon. She is further survived by step-daughters, Marci (Scott) McCoy and Susan (Bill) Dawson. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Betty Coon; niece, Linda Coon; nephew, Thomas Coon; and great-nephew, John Coon.Funeral services will be held at the SKAALEN CHAPEL, 400 North Morris St., Stoughton, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, with the Rev. Susan Bresser and Pastor James Koza presiding. Private burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edwin E. and Janet L. Bryant Foundation Inc., P.O Box 600, Stoughton, WI 53589. The family would like to thank the staffs at Skaalen Retirement and Rehabilitation Center, Home Instead and HospiceCare Inc. for the care given Janet.
