Obituary
OREGON- William "Bill" R. Sholts, age 88, of Oregon, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at HospiceCare Inc., in Fitchburg. He was born on July 4, 1922, in Oregon, the son of Albert and Alma (Schumann) Sholts. Bill graduated from Oregon High School in 1940. He married Maxine Olsen on March 17, 1945, in Oregon. They farmed together in the Oregon area. After retiring from farming, he began work as a general contractor and delivered mail part-time.
He was a full-time rural letter carrier retiring in 1984, after 21 years of service. He is survived by six children, Jerry (Loretta) Sholts of Windsor, Jacie (Paul) Smith of Oregon, Janice (Bill) Durkin of Madison, James (Teresa) Sholts of Stoughton, John (Linda) Sholts of Keystone, Iowa, and Jeffrey (Laura) Sholts of Windsor, ten grandchildren, Jim D., Julie, Paul M., Joel, Amanda, Peter, Emily, Adam, Kaylyn, and Megan; and a brother, Richard (Sonny) Sholts of Creve Coeur, Mo. Bill was a council member for Boy Scout Troop No. 50 for 20 years. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Oregon where he served on church council and the building committee, and an associate member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Madison . He was also an active member of the 20/20 card club. Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine; sister, Mary Dunn; and step-brother, David Peterson. Funeral services will be held at MESSIAH EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Rd., Madison at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, with the Rev. Jeff VandenHeuvel presiding. Internment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the family, who will establish a memorial fund in Bills name. The family would like to thank HospiceCare and Hyland Park for their care and compassion.

Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at MESSIAH EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Rd., Madison at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, with the Rev. Jeff VandenHeuvel presiding.
