Jerome Irvin Rendahl

MONONA- Jerome I. Rendahl, age 89, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010. Jerome was born on March 19, 1921, fourth of five children to Alvin and Jenny Rendahl. A lifelong Madison resident, Jerome graduated from East High School in 1938. Drafted in 1942, Jerome was an armorer at a machine gun school in Fort Myers, Fla., for 18 months before volunteering for the 101st Airborne, joining them after the Battle of the Bulge to the end of the war. He returned to the U.S. with the 82nd Airborne, participating in the famous New York City Victory Parade. Jerome was married to the former Donna Chard in 1949, and their only son, Thomas, was born in 1953. After being widowed in 1965, Jerome re-married in 1967 to the former Margaret Cleary until her death in 2000. Jerome was employed by the State of Wisconsin for almost 30 years as a fuel testing chemist. Jerome is survived by a son, Thomas; sister-in-law, Delores Rendahl; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Evans and Myrtle Norland; and two brothers, Emmett and Lloyd.A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Dr., Monona with military rites being conducted. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison.
