Obituary

MADISON - Vera Marie Powell, age 92, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010. She was born on April 1, 1918, in Martinsville, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Annen) Nonn. She married Alex Powell on August 28, 1941, in Roxbury Township. Vera has resided in the Madison area since 1934. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Vera was an avid volunteer and crocheted many afghans for the American Family Childrens Hospital, Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital and for Project Linus. She loved playing cards, especially with friends at the Wilmar Center and the Goodman Community Center. She is survived by her children, Rosemary Moran of Madison, Donna (Dave) Thiele of DeForest, Dennis (Louise) Powell of Middleton, David (Anna) Powell of Cambridge, and Catherine (Gary) Koltes of Madison; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Aurelia Bordson of Madison and Nora Kraby of Stoughton; and brothers, Rueben (Mary) Nonn of Lodi and Dean (Alice) Nonn of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin grandchildren, Angela and Lindsey Powell; and brother, Harold Nonn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 with Fr. Kent Schmitt presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a scripture service beginning at 6:45p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010. Id like the memory of me to be a happy one. Id like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. Id like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun, of happy memories that I leave when life is done. Cemetery: Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
