Obituary
MADISON- Dorothy M. Shinstine, age 86, died peacefully on November 19, 2010, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 18, 1924, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Milton and Myrtle (Gremore) Otto. After graduating from high school, Dorothy moved to Madison, attended Madison Business College, and worked at WHA Radio. She married Merle F. Shinstine on September 29, 1945, at St. Gabriels Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. While raising her family, Dorothy worked at Madison Newspapers and the Wisconsin Department of Justice. She enjoyed knitting, baking, playing cards and making each holiday special. Dorothy is survived by her seven children, Carol (Ken) Connor of Troy, N. Y., Kathy (R. Chris) Davis, Mary Ann, Jerry (Kim), and David, all of Madison, Michael (Carrie) of Springdale, Ark. and Lori (Bob) of Madison; seven grandchildren, Jill and Meghan Connor, Brian (Summer) and Mark Davis, James (Jenna) and Michael and Heather Shinstine; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Davis; a sister, Marita (Bert) Fennel of Rockford, Illinois, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle, in February 2010; and three infant children, William, Mary Jo, and Francis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 with Monsignor Charles Schluter presiding. A private burial service will be held at a later date. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 and also at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or the charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Charles Weber, Dr. Robert Hegeman, and the staff of Hospice Care, Inc. for their compassionate care. Dorothy was a woman of deep faith whose greatest enjoyment came from being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mom, may you always have an angel by your side.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.

A private burial service will be held at a later date.

Cousins & families-Sorry for your loss-Mary and I plus my daughter Brenda stopped to see Aunt Dorothy and David this summer-had an enjoyable visit learning why Uncle Merle and she ended up in Madison-won't be attending services, I just got out of hospital having heart attack and stent placed-remember you Shinstine offspring, keep those hearts checked-I know Uncle Merle welcomed his loved one with open arms-let that give you comfort-God Bless!

We were sorry to hear of Aunt Dorothy's illness and
death. We have fond memories of the family reunions
