Obituary
MADISON - Marilyn L. Huxtable, age 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at HospiceCare in Fitchburg, surrounded by her family. She was born on Aug. 16, 1939, in Loma Linda, Calif., the daughter of Lyle and Helen (Kubias) Govier. After the family moved to a farm in Grant County in 1945, Marilyn remained a Wisconsin resident for the rest of her life. She was Salutatorian of the Lancaster High School Class of 1957, and went on to receive a nursing degree from the Madison General Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1960. Except for a number of years off to raise a family, Marilyn worked as a registered nurse at Madison General Hospital (now known as Meriter Hospital) from 1960 until her retirement in 2004. As a nurse, Marilyn was focused on caring. She always provided prompt response to her patients, and many times helped out after her shift if the hospital was short-staffed. She was a member of the mobile unit, and was trained in critical care and emergency room techniques so she could work anywhere she was needed in the hospital. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She married Terry Huxtable on May 6, 1961, at First Baptist Church of Madison, and later raised three sons. Next year would have been their 50th anniversary. Marilyn enjoyed spending time with famly, especially her four granddaughters. She also enjoyed traveling, her morning scones, following the Badgers and Packers, and bird watching. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Terry; sons, Douglas (Sue), Jeffrey (Kathy), and Brian (Kate); granddaughters, Natalie, Megan, Rebecca, and Sarah; sister, Donna (Robert) Teegardin; brother, Bruce (Marilyn) Govier; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Helen Govier. A visitation with the family will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
