Obituary

MADISON - George L. Cook, age 81, of Madison, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010. He was born on Aug. 22, 1929, in Glendale, Calif., the son of George S. and Genevieve Cook. George was united in marriage to Viola Feiner on Nov. 28, 1953. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. George worked for the Yellow Pages and then retired from GTE in 1985. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling and was an avid Packers fan. George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Viola; seven children, William (Jill), Daniel (Cari), Robert (Tracy), Richard (Nola), John (Diane), Thomas and James; four grandchildren, Adam, Libby, Mitchell and Matthew Cook; sister, Jean Deering; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven; sister, Norma Smith; half-brother, John Cook; and his two dogs, both named \"Lady\". Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at noon on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, with the Rev. Debra Holbrook presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at HospiceCare Inc. for the care they gave George. Cemetery: Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation: Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
