LaVerne Elizabeth Stone

MADISON-LaVerne Stone, age 84, died peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital. She was born on Oct. 24, 1926, to Frank and Melinda (Spitzer) Mazanet, in Green Bay. LaVerne graduated from Madison West High School in 1944, attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from the Ray School of Merchandising in Chicago, Ill., in 1948. She married Charles A. Stone on May 28, 1949, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Madison. LaVerne was the owner of Stones Tall Shop, a retail clothing store from 1972 until 2004. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Madison. LaVerne is survived by her three sons, Michael Stone of Madison, Steven Stone of Lodi and Dan (Lori) Stone of Poynette; her sister and best friend, Linn; brother-in-law, Mick Baltes; brother, Howard Mazanet; sister-in-law, Ila Mazanet; three grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca and Jonathan Stone; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who were all special to her; many dear friends; her beloved little poodle, Gigi; and her best canine friend, Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 1992; mother, Melinda in 1994; and father, Frank in 2001. A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 E. Main St., Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010. Private inurnment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, Dane County Humane Society or the PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease Research) Foundation.
