Larry C. Swanson

MCFARLAND/WAUNAKEE-Larry C. Swanson, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept. 28, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Carl and Margie Swanson. He married Yvonne Mellem in 1955, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. Larry was in the U. S. Army/Coast Guard at the end of World War II. He was a member of the McFarland American Legion Post 534. Larry retired from Oscar Mayer after 35 years in 1982. He enjoyed traveling and visiting all 50 states. There was never a vacation he said no to! He had a passion for traveling, hunting, fishing, boating and camping. Larry is survived by his wife, Yvonne; six children, Jerry, Larry, Bonnie Duerst, Steven (Vicki), Roger, and Brenda Kritz (fianc, Bob Duchow); nine grandchildren; a great-grandson on the way; brother, Raymond; and sister, Sonja Coddington. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jettie Schroeder. Funeral services will be held at MCFARLAND LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5529 Marsh Road, McFarland, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, with the Rev. Jerry Tews presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McFarland Lutheran Church Youth Program. Larry was a very loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Our family has gotten through the difficult times in life by fully relying on God. May it be so...F.R.O.G.
