Obituary
MOUNT HOREB/MADISON - Gladys I. Wilson, age 88, of Mount Horeb, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family, on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Ingle Living Communities. She was born on Feb. 26, 1922, in Forward, the oldest of three children, to Lawrence and Sophia (Crooks) Gladem. She was a graduate of Blanchardville High School. Gladys married Homer Lamar Wilson on June 6, 1942, in Madison. They were married by Homers father, the Rev. William Clyde Wilson. Gladys and Homer resided in the house that Homer built for 20 years. She was a member of Bryn Mawr Church in Cottage Grove. Gladys worked for many years as a waitress, including the Red Rooster, Golden Rooster and Welches Embers. After Homer passed away, she worked as a supervisor for R.L. Polk Directory Service where she traveled throughout the Midwest and Alaska. She retired in 1987. Gladys had many hobbies, crocheting, knitting, embroidery and crafting. Gladys also enjoyed going to Ho Chunk and playing bingo, and especially enjoyed playing cards with her sister, Dorothy and Milo on Sunday afternoons. Her favorite treat was going to Culvers for custard. She also enjoyed her dining room duties at Ingleside and enjoyed being in charge of the rosemaling room. Gladys enjoyed the sing along songs with Connie at Ingleside. She is survived by her children, David Wilson of New York, and Susan (Larry) Dolgner of Madison; grandchildren, Robert, Kelly, Scott, Andrew and Elizabeth; great-grandson, Nikolas Dolgner; sister, Dorothy (Milo) Bergum; sister-in-law, Joanne Wilson of California; and many nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; son, Robert; and infant brother. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. A special thank you to the staff at Ingleside for their many years of love and support. The family also wants to thank HospiceCare and Katrina, who was with the family when Gladys passed away.
