Obituary

MADISON - Donald David Sloniker, age 62, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, in Madison. He was born on Feb. 26, 1948, the son of Carl and Edith (Berkan) Sloniker. Donald attended Madison East High School. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war from 1967 until 1968, C.O.A. 2nd BN 503 INF, 101st Airborne Division and 173rd Airborne Brigade. He received several commendations and honors. He was a disabled veteran who enjoyed life, spending time with his family and friends, traveling, gardening and music. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Don was a gentleman and a very kind hearted person. He is survived by siblings, Pearl Pletcher of Arkansas, Carol (Pat) Going of Colorado, Donna Kartman of Madison, Gerald (Mary) Sloniker of Idaho, Ronald (Carol) Sloniker of Evansville, and Edward Sloniker of Lodi. He is further survived by his aunt, Helen Olson of Madison, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a..m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery, Oregon. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
