Obituary
Studt, Henrietta "Teddy" Osburn
MONONA -Teddy Studt of Monona, passed away after a long illness on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at HospiceCare Inc., at age 77. Her three children were at her side when she died. She was born on May 4, 1933, in New York, N.Y., to Edna Howard (Osburn) and Heinz Ernst Luedicke. After graduating from Adelphi Academy in 1951, she attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison where she earned a B.S. in education and recreation with an emphasis in theater in 1955. Before graduation, she met, fell in love with, and later married the love of her life, Robert Richard Studt. She had an overwhelming love of life, people, travel, and adventure.Throughout her life, Teddy has taught, inspired, and entertained the people around her. After college, Teddy taught second grade in the Madison school system. However, Teddy is best known for her flair for the dramatic, and she and Bob were active participants in many Madison community theater groups, especially Madison Theatre Guild. In addition, Teddy modeled for local businesses through the 60's, 70's and 80's, most memorably as a live mannequin in the window at Yost's on State Street. Many a passerby was surprised when they received a wink from the mannequin in the window. She founded the Monona Park Players in 1979, eventually becoming part of the Monona school system and expanded to include PlayTime Productions, a regional children's theatre. She wrote the original scripts and music for all of PlayTime's light-hearted, slightly twisted fairy tales and touched the lives of thousands of children. PlayTime Productions continues to spread its magic today. As Teddy used to say, "Everyone needs a little magic in their lives."Teddy and Bob raised three children, Donald Charles of Marquette, Mich., Nancy Howard Luedicke of Madison, and Kurt Friedrich (Nikki Evans) of Kaneohe, Hawaii; grandchildren include, Jacob and Garrison (Donald), and Kate and Kai (Kurt and Nikki). Teddy was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2001.A celebration of Teddy's life will be held at LAKE EDGE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4200 Buckeye Road, Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct 2, 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation to PlayTime Productions or to Anderson HospiceCare Inc. in Fitchburg, and that all friends of legal age raise a glass of brandy in her name. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jeff Davis, Dr. Jim Shropshire, the staff of 4 SW at St. Mary's Hospital, the staff of Anderson HospiceCare Inc., the staff at the Monona Medicine Shoppe, and all their sharing friends for compassionate and loving care these past several months.

It was a very special experience getting to know Teddy, though it was during the last year of her life. I am happy to see this earlier photo of her, portraying the vitality she exuded even when so very ill and fragile. Though her body became extremely fragile, her spirit was certainly stalwart and ALIVE...with a ready smile and stories. For me, who didn't know any of her earlier history, these were delightful visits. I always walked out feeling immensely inspired...even awed. Grace and Grit, is the title of a book - a fitting description of what Teddy modeled for me. May she be at peace. I send my condolence to her family and close friends. Jean Scott-Honig

In Sept.,1996,I accompanied my 9YO daughter Caitlyn to audtions for a Playtime production of Snow White. Caitlyn played Dopey to many appreciative local audiences; her life was changed forever. Caitlyn is following in Teddy's footsteps to become a teacher and inspire, educate and challenge another generation of lucky children.Playtime lives on!!!

I was sorry to hear of Teddy's passing but I know she and Bob are smiling somewhere together again. Teddy was a truly beautiful and talented woman who made life more enjoyable and interesting. Her incredible creativity, sense of humor, and love of children and theatre were exemplified in all of her plays created for Playtime Productions. I am honored to have known her.
