Obituary
MADISON - Donald Tobias Sr., age 89, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at UW Hospital. He was born on May 28, 1921, in Madison. Donald married Lorraine Mulchay on August 13, 1946. Donald worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for more than 30 years. He was very proud to be a chairman for The Local United Transportation Union. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served under George Patton, Third Army where he received a purple heart for his services. He was a Sergeant and Bazooka Operator. He enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his family, walking, and playing golf. Donald was an avid Packers and Badgers fan. He enjoyed life, and was known for having a huge heart. Donald was survived by children, Don \" Toby\" J. (Karen) Tobias of Madison, Daniel (Deb) Tobias of Cottage Grove, and Debra (Milton) Fisher of Madison; son-in-law, Larry Gardener; grandchildren, Jeff (Jaime) Tobias, Tammy Tobias, Jennifer Tobias, Christopher Fisher, and Christina and Michael Tobias; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Austin, Alanna, Jackson, Alex, and Jayden; and friend, Cindy Tobias. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine in 1994; daughter, Donna Gardener in 2003; granddaughter, Sara Lorraine Fisher; and his sister. Private services will be held. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. and American Cancer Society. A special thank you to the staff at UW Hospital for the care they gave Don.

It was our privilege to have Don as a neighbor for a short time. His good spirits always cheered up my wife and I during our little visits with him. We will miss him, and offer the family our sympathies.
