Obituary

SUN PRAIRIE - Darlene (Meyer) Schweiss, A.K.A. Darlene Meier, age 78, took the hand of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2010, and walked into eternal life joining her heavenly family after a courageous battle with acute leukemia. Darlene was born on Aug. 2, 1932, in Cross Plains to Nicholas Meyer (Meier) and Agnes (Bass) Meyer. She attended both East and Central High Schools, and Madison Business College. Darlene married Norman Schweiss in 1950, and joined him for several years as he served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. She was later, owner and manager of several 8-unit apartment buildings as well, as a partner in Norms Mobile Home Communities in Baraboo, Portage, and Bay View Heights in Stoughton. Darlene served as president of the 4-Lakes Yacht Club Auxilliary in its early years and was a member of the Elks Club Auxilliary. She was a member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, in Sun Prairie and also Immaculate Heart of Mary, in Monona. Darlene loved deep sea fishing for the big ones; in the Keys in Florida, Bimini, and Mexico. Many who went with her said it was a joy being on the boat with her. She was never \"skunked\" and guides loved her for her spirit. Darlene is leaving behind her husband of 60 years, Norman; daughter, Debora (Bryan) Folz; grandson, Ryan Roscoe; two granddaughters, Abigail and Allison Folz; sister, Shirley (Pogue) Gloe, of Madison; two nieces, Lori Seals of Monona and Leslie (Jack) Herbrand of Madison; two nephews, John (Marianne) Pogue of Madison and Daniel (Joni) Pogue of Sun Prairie; a special cousin, Fr. Laverne Meier; sister-in-law, Verda McDermott; and another niece Ann (Jerry) Gleisner. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Agnes Meyer. Many thanks go to HospiceCare and special thanks to her god-child, Alice Schweiss and June Hausmann for their extraordinary helpfulness. Darlene will be missed by all who knew her as she was a very loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of many. Her Lord was also special to her; he helped her reach many hard decisions in her life. A funeral mass will be held at ST. ALBERT THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2402 St. Albert Drive, Sun Prairie, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, with Rev. Monsignor Terrence L. Connors and Father LaVerne Meier concelebrating. Norm and Family, I am sending my prayers and thoughts your way through this very difficult time. I was very sad when my parents told me the news of Darlene's passing. I am so happy that we were able to have so many happy memories in Florida- boy, could Darlene make me laugh! The adventures that came along with water aerobics still bring a smile to my face! I miss you all and just know that I will be thinking of you a lot. - Katie
