Myers, Roger W.
STOUGHTON-Roger W. Myers, age 78, fell asleep in death on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, in his home with his loving wife by his side, after a courageous 20 year battle with diabetes and related illnesses. He was born on Feb. 19, 1932, to Walter R. and Lydia A. (Dettmann) Myers, in Madison. He grew up on the East side of Madison and graduated from East High School, class of 1950. In addition to many various occupations, Roger served in the U. S. Army, stationed in Alaska before it's statehood during the Korean War. Upon returning to Wisconsin, he joined the Madison Fire Department in 1955, retiring as captain in 1991 with more than 35 years of service. On Oct. 1, 1960, Roger married Judith A Garey. Together they raised five loving children in Madison. After Rogers retirement, he and his wife moved to Tempe, Ariz. where they lived for 10 years returning to Wisconsin in 2002, making Stoughton their home. On Feb. 2, 1975, Roger symbolized his dedication to Jehovah God by water baptism serving loyally until his death. Roger loved his God Jehovah and his neighbors and demonstrated this by volunteering in many capacities including his public ministry, assisting with first aid and Kingdom Hall construction projects. When his declining health limited his mobility, he shared bible truths by means of telephone. He was a member of the Monona Grove congregation in Madison, as well as the Kyrene congregation in Arizona. Roger enjoyed working with his hands, he remodeled many homes with his wife and children. He also crafted wooden toys which he loved bestowing upon his many"adopted" grandchildren. Roger was a man who enjoyed a good chuckle. He loved to joke and tell humorous stories. He cherished his family and loved to spend time with them. He was looking forward to celebrating his upcoming 50th wedding anniversary. Roger is survived by his wife, Judith; his children, James A. (Trista) Myers of Madison, Mary Beth (John) Thompson of Mount Horeb, Stephen P.(Heidi) Myers of Waunakee, Peter A. Myers of Mesa, Ariz., Daniel D.(Jennifer) Myers of Mesa, Ariz.; and his children from a previous marriage, David R. Myers, Robert A. Myers, and Barbara Lynn(David Jaqish)Myers of Monticello; grandchildren, Kathryn E. Thompson, Julian D. Thompson, Brenna Myers, Tyler A. Myers, and Bailey M. Myers; brothers-in-law, Elmer "Buz" (Linda)Garey and Arthur Garske, both of Madison; sisters-in-law, Susan (Gary) Chenier of DeForest, and Linda Rothberger of Fort Atkinson; nieces and nephews, Ronald Garske, Rebecca Garske, Elmer Garey IV, Boyd (Azumi) Garey and family, Bart (Angie) Garey and family, Timothy Rothberger, and Sara Rothberger; a foster daughter, Kimberly Tohannie and her children Jerrica, Jerrold, and Nizohni-Chee of Tuba City, Ariz.; and a cousin, Myrtle Brown of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nancy Garske; and a grandson, John C. Thompson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elmer "Bud" and Sara Garey; brother-in-law, Lance Rothberger; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Garey. A memorial service will be held at the KINGDOM HALL OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES, 4545 E. Buckeye Road, Madison, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010. A visitation will be held at Kingdom Hall from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. "And he [Jehovah] will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more. The former things have passed away." -Revelation 21:4 The family would like to express their gratitude to the Stoughton Fire and Rescue, Wisconsin Heart, and the many doctors and health care providers that cared for Roger.
Visitation:
A visitation will be held at Kingdom Hall from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.
Service:
A memorial service will be held at the KINGDOM HALL OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES, 4545 E. Buckeye Road, Madison, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010.

Our prayers are with all of the Myers family. We met Roger when Randy gave a talk in Monona. We will be out of town this weekend, but our thoughts are with you for comfort from Jehovah and all your family and friends.

Roger always had a unique fix for everything. He was such a kind helpful soul. He will be missed. Through the gift of Jesus we can all be reunited with him in heaven. Heaven is a good place to be. May God bless your family in this time of morning.
