Obituary

Slinde, Ruth L. STOUGHTON Ruth L. Slinde, age 86, of Stoughton, died peacefully at her home on Monday, Aug. 16, 2010. She was born in Stoughton, on July 29, 1924 and raised by her parents, Oyvind "Dutch" and Inger Gullickson. Ruth graduated from Stoughton High School in 1942. On Nov. 14, 1942, she was united in marriage to Stanley W. Harp Slinde. During her working career, Ruth was employed by the Stoughton House of Gifts, Daggett's Grocery, Uniroyal and Oscar Mayer. She retired from Oscar Mayer after 17 years of service in July 1990. In her retirement , she worked 11 years as a cashier/greeter for Walmart and as a receptionist for a number of years for her grandson, Derren, at Slinde Chiropractic in Stoughton. Ruth thoroughly enjoyed working with people. She had a great sense of humor, was very engaging and always pleasant. Ruth and Harp were avid sports fans, supporting their son, Steve, from grade school through high school. They were also passionate Badgers and Packers fans, attending football games at Camp Randall for many years. Ruth enjoyed crocheting many blankets and afghans for family members. She especially loved to spend time with her family and a closely knit group of high school friends. She was a baptized, confirmed and lifetime member of First Lutheran Church and a member of the Stoughton Country Club. Ruth is survived by her son, Steve (Donna) Slinde of Stoughton; three grandchildren, Dr. Nathan (Jenni) Slinde of Fond du Lac, Dr. Derren (Rhonda) Slinde of Middleton, and Lisa (Duane) Harlow of Stoughton; six great-grandchildren, Gavin and Andrew Slinde, Kate and Rowan Harlow, and Calvin and Corbin Slinde; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Swingen and Arlene Mortenson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley on April 8, 1998; and her parents. A memorial service will be held at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 310 E. Washington St., Stoughton at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, with the Rev. Dick Halom presiding. The family will greet friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Private graveside services will be held later that day.The family wishes to thank Kelly Buss and the Hospice staff for their loving care and support.
