Obituary

WAUNAKEE-Bradley J. "Bardy" Brown, age 84, of Waunakee, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2010 at his home. He was born on April 23, 1926, in Boscobel, the son of Harry and Nell Brown. Brad proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He returned and graduated from Madison Central High School where he met the love of his life, and his future wife, Charmayne "Sugar" Robbins. He attended UW Whitewater. Brad and Sugar married on May 24, 1947 in Bethel Lutheran Church and together raised their daughters, Barbara and Betsy on the East side of Madison. Success and a new State Office Building on Madison's West side moved their family to Indian Hills where Brad continued to work as a Civil Engineer in the Department of Natural Resources where he traveled throughout Wisconsin State Parks and is known for several bath houses, park shelters, etc. that he designed prior to his retirement. Brad had a variety of interests, including the outdoors, was an avid gardener and truly enjoyed traveling with his family to Europe and Las Vegas, where he always "broke even." Brad is survived by two daughters, Barbara Keating, of De Forest and Betsy Brown (Wendy Williams) of Flagstaff, Arizona; two grandchildren, Genna (Craig) Roller, and Steven Keating; five great-grandchildren, Jory Keating (Nicole Peterson), Misty, Alizabeth, Samantha (Jeremy Lehman), and Tabitha; two great-great-grandchildren, Aden and Kyler; a brother, Berkley (Dot) Brown; a brother-in-law, Duane Brickson; his loyal dog Pookie and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife Sugar, who passed in 2007, Brad was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at 12:30 PM on Friday, September 3, 2010. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison. Visitation will be on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. A special thank you to the staff on the 11th floor cardiac unit at Meriter Hospital and to HospiceCare, Inc. for their tender care and help during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Brad's name may be made to HospiceCare, Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711. Brad will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
