Obituary

Madison--Richardson, Barton L., age 75, passed away in the presence of family on Monday, August 16, 2010, after a brief bout with cancer. Bart was born on November 3, 1934, in Rockford, IL, the son of Claude and Gladys Richardson. Many lifelong friendships were created in Rockford throughout his youth. It was here that he began playing tennis - a lifelong passion which he played regularly until his illness. He graduated from Rockford East High School before continuing his education at Northwestern University. He graduated from Northwestern in 1956 with a business degree, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity, and the tennis team. He married Jeannette Benson on December 21, 1963 in Waukegan, IL. They moved to Madison in 1969 where he worked for American Family as their Common Stock Portfolio Director. His love of investments continued as an avocation following his retirement in 1999. Bart was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he served as council president, treasurer and a member of the foundation. He was an avid Badger basketball, Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Bart is survived by his wife: Jeannette of Madison; 4 children: Jennifer (Paul) Singelstad of Morrison, CO, and their daughter, Sonja, Mary (Tony) Leone of Highland Village, TX, and their children, Allison, Andrew and Emily, James (Lynn) Richardson of Greenville, WI, and their son, Brice, and John (Laura) Richardson of St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amy. Funeral services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Madison on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William White presiding. There will be a visitation at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Avenue, Middleton, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2010, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethel Lutheran Church Foundation or to the charity of your choice. Bart was a dedicated loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Service: Funeral services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Madison on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William White presiding.
