Obituary
Phyllis "Phyl" Spohn Marschke passed away on August 5, 2010 at her home in Middleto. Phyl was born on December 6, 1925, in Madison to George and Hazel Spohn. The family moved to Milwaukee in 1932 where Phyl attended Henry Clay School in White Fish Bay. In 1939, they moved to Fox Point where Phyl attended St. Monica Catholic School and White Fish Bay High School. She was a Chi Omega at Purdue University, majoring in English and Home Economics. During her senior year she met Robert "Bob" Marschke, an uncle of one of her sorority sisters. They were married in the Butler University Chapel on August 30, 1947, and lived in Indianapolis, Indiana for 20 years until moving to Madison in 1969. Phyl was an avid reader, excelled at most needlecrafts, loved to cook, travel and garden, and enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Crystal Lake near Wautoma. Always up for a bridge game, she belonged to many bridge groups. For many years she volunteered at the Attic Angel Association. Phyl was an attentive mother and an astute business woman as well, managing two American Handicrafts stores, then opening the the first antiques mall in Madison. Phyl is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert F. Marschke Sr.; her sister, Shirley Ross of Middleton; her children: Robert F. Marschke Jr. of Fort Collins, CO.; Elizabeth Boyarski of Pittsburgh, PA.; Georgia Chirieleison of Vienna, VA.; James Marschke of Morgan Hill, CA.; Sarah Vovos and Jonathan Marschke of Middleton, WI.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Phyl was predeceased by her parents, George Daniel Spohn and Hazel Mae Inman Spohn; Frank Ross, her brother-in-law; Douglas Ross, her nephew, and Colin Boyarski, her grandson. This family wishes to thank Dr. Jeff Wood and Dr.Jay Couser for their helpfulness. There will be a private church service for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Hospice Care, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI. 53711.
