Obituary

O'Neil, James Michael MADISON-James Michael O'Neil, husband, father and friend, passed away on August 30th, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. From the outset, James dealt with the diagnosis on his own terms. He chose to remain in the peaceful setting of his backyard deck, surrounded by what he loved most: the unraveling of seasons, the natural world on display, and the company of friends and family. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family left behind, and most importantly to his wife, Lois, whom he called his best friend. Born April 21, 1944, James was the son of Robert and Anna Mary O'Neil. He married Lois Ann Sutter on May 18th, 1968, at St. Bernard's Church in Madison, Wisconsin. James is survived by his mother Anna Mary O'Neil; his wife, Lois; his sons, James and Jeffrey; his sisters, Mary (David) Riggs, Chris (Steve) Roisum; and brother, Bob (Char) O'Neil. He was preceded in death by his father Robert O'Neil, and his brother John O'Neil. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 at the Gunderson East Funeral Home 5203 Monona Dr., Monona, with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 and also from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Friday at the funeral home. Jim was a special person. The most wonderful brother anyone could ask for. His wit and sense of humor could not be compared. From the time we were little Jim could be seen with a cup of coffee in his hands. His favorite drink!! The world has lost a beautiful human being in my brother. His death has left an emptiness in my heart. My only consolation is knowing that Dad and our brother Jackie will be taking good care of you from now on. Until we meet again!
