Obituary
MONONA - Helen P. (McGuire) Polzer, age 82, a longtime resident of Monona, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. She was born on Oct 1, 1927, in Highland, the daughter of Alphonse and Loyala (Schoepp) McGuire. Helen was a UW-Madison graduate, and worked with the CAC using her degree in social work. She also worked as a childrens librarian at the Monona Library and was proud to be a stay at home mom. Helen was a lifelong volunteer with several organizations in her community, such as Dean Group Home, member and past president of AAUW, longtime parish member and volunteer of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She always had a love of learning and traveled to many places around the world. Helen is survived by Harold, her husband of 62 years; her children, Mark (Claudia) of Medina, Ohio, Steve (Patt) of BellaVista, Arkansas, Mary (Ted) Rogers of Phoenix, Ariz, Anne (Tom) Rothfuss of Rochester, N.Y., and Christopher (Pam) of Poynette; ten grandchildren, Michael and Jenna Polzer, John, Katie and Marie Polzer, Lindsey and Matthew Rogers, Jeffrey Ras, Paige and Tony Polzer; and her sisters, Margaret Blott, Mary Pringle and Maureen Ayer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the: Polzer Memorial Scholarship, c/o Monona State Bank.
