Obituary
MADISON-John N. Armstrong, age 102, passed away on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Karmenta Care Center, his home of three years. He was born on Dec. 15, 1907, in Tappley Town, Ontario, Canada, one of 11 children of Samuel and Maude (Clarke) Armstrong. John was a Brother of the Order of Holy Cross of Notre Dame for 15 years. He became a naturalized citizen on Feb. 25, 1936. Later, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served during World War II. John was a butcher at Stevens Meats for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church for almost 40 years. John is survived by his brother, Gerald Armstrong; sister, Gertie Armstrong; nephew, Cliff (Diann) Armstrong; special niece, Lori Marcoux; and other nieces and nephews, all of Canada. He is further survived by his friends, Sandra and Wally Ladik, Debra Alldredge, Gloria and Bill Waite, Richard Johnson, the Rev. Gary Lambert, the Rev. Paula Harris and his St. Lukes church family. John was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; wife of six years, Leona Ritter; and dear friend, Lillian Waites. A memorial service will be held at ST. LUKES EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 4011 Major Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, with the Rev. Paula Harris presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be at St. Lukes Columbarium. Memorials may be made to East Madison/Monona Coalition of the Aging or St. Lukes Episcopal Church. A special thank you to the staff of Karmenta Care Center and HospiceCare.
