Carl Kirchstein

Kirchstein, Carl J. MADISON - Carl J. Kirchstein, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at HospiceCare. He was born on Sept. 5, 1926, in Baraboo, the son of Carl and Mabel (Schultz) Kirchstein. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Carl married Jeanette Flentje in 1948 and together they made Madison their home for more than 50 years. Carl was employed by Union Local 464, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He is survived by his daughter, Lynne (Kevin) Zickert of Hazelhurst; sons, Tim Kirchstein of DeForest, and John (Susan) Kirchstein of Bayport, Minn.; three grandsons, Kevin (Brooke) Zickert, Jacob and Alex Kirchstein; and great-grandchildren, Sophie and Ally Zickert. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Carol Kirchstein. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, with the Rev. Jeff Tomberlin presiding. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Merrimac. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 20, 2010. The family would like to extend a special thank you to John Radke, the staff at Legacy Gardens, Hospice Inpatient, and doctors and nurses at the VA Hospital who cared for Carl.
