Obituary
BROOKLYN-Melvin G. Hanson, age 95, of Brooklyn, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Oregon Manor. He was born on April 1, 1915, in Stoughton, the son of Gus and Mary (Johnson) Hanson. When Melvin was six the family bought a farm in Oregon, where he grew up. Melvin worked for Moline Implement for several years. He had a milk route to Bowman Dairy until it closed at Brooklyn. Melvin then operated Ancor Club in Brooklyn for 11 years. Then he farmed until his retirement. Melvin loved to go down to the river on Sundays to visit with relatives. He was a member of Brooklyn United Methodist Church. Melvin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Elmer Hanson; and son, Billy (Marcia) Hanson of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gladys Bryant; and brothers, Erwin and Earl. Funeral services will be held at BROOKLYN COMMUNITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 201 Church St., Brooklyn, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, with the Rev. Gail Brown presiding. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
