Obituary
MIDDLETON/WAUNAKEE-Roger Lee Schumann, age 77, passed away on Thursday July 15, 2010 surrounded by his family. Roger was born on May 26, 1933 to Emil and Emma (Haak) Schumann. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church, Middleton where he was a board member, and confirmed at St. Luke\'s Lutheran Church, Middleton where he was a current member and served as an usher for 37 years. After graduating from Middleton High School, Roger served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict. After he returned from the war he settled into farming, and then as a cement finisher for 35 years. He retired at age 72 and became a crossing guard for the Waunakee Schools, a job he loved because of all the great people he met. Roger married Joyce Frye in 1953 and from that union was blessed with six children; Debbie Lehner, Mt. Horeb; Allen (Rose) Schumann, Middleton; Sheryl (Bernie) Gehrmann, Waunakee; Jeff (Jayne) Schumann, DeForest; Dyanne (Tim) Schwartz, Waunakee; Carla (Glenn) Myers, Waunakee. In addition to his children, he is survived by grandchildren, Jessica (Ben) Luther, Justin and Alex Schwartz, Mandy Gehrmann, Cayla Myers, Shelle (Dave) Seymour, Jason (Justine) Myers, Stefanie (Craig) Niesen and five great grandchildren, Carson, Aidan, Ethan, Carter and Brenna. Roger will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends in addition to his companions Peppy and Lady. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in-law, Carl and Anna Meyer, brother Earl, granddaughter Heather Schwartz and son-in-law Peter Lehner. Funeral services will be held at ST. LUKE\'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 19, 2010 with the Reverend Heather Lampert presiding. A brief service and burial will follow at 2:30 PM at First Lutheran Church, Pleasant View Road, Middleton. A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 18, 2010 a t GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton and also on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or Hospice. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. John Schilling, Dr. Robert Olson, Erin Morris NP, Dr. Galen Hasler and the entire staff at Hospice for their dedication to Roger.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 18, 2010 a t GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton and also on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
