Obituary

MADISON- The world lost a kind and gentle soul, Delores Jenlyn Skonie, age 79, of Madison. Delores passed away at St. Marys Hospital. While battling cancer, she faced her illness with dignity and courage. Delores was surrounded in her final days and hours by her loving children, who were the center of her life. She was born on Oct. 9, 1930 in rural DeForest to Edward and Berthe (Ihland) Legrey. Delores graduated from DeForest High School. She married her husband, Frank A. Skonie, on October 28, 1950 at St. Raphaels Cathedral. Delores worked briefly for the State of Wisconsin before raising her family. Delores then returned to work at American Family Insurance until her retirement. Delores looked forward to Sunday afternoon visits from her children and grandchildren, and always made each holiday a special occasion with her hospitality and delicious home-cooked meals. She valued people and appreciated the beauty found in daily life. Throughout her life, Delores always put the needs and desires of others before her own, and made everyone feel welcome to her home. When our time comes to leave this world, we can only hope we brightened the lives of those we knew, and treated all with kindness as Delores did. Delores is survived by her husband, Frank Skonie;five children, Greg (Maureen) Skonie, Pam (Rick) Anderson, Cindy (Dave) Pittman, Elizabeth (John) Stofflet, and Jon Skonie;eight grandchildren;six great- grandchildren;and sister, Elaine Leytem. We (my sister Eileen Timm Backhaus and myself) wanted to express our condolences to Delores' family on her passing. We remember summer visits to the big white house at the top of the hill and how welcome she always made us all feel. We, too, are saddened and will remember you all in our thoughts and prayers.
