Obituary

MADISON-Steven A. Homme, age 60, of Madison, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, July 26, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Steve was born on Oct. 14, 1949, to Freeman and Harriett Homme. On June 7, 1969, he married the love of his life, Nancy Strait and together they had four children, Dave, Kelly, Krysta and Joe. He worked for Sub-Zero Inc. for 29 years, and in the past had worked for Tony Pelliterris Trucking Service and Wick Agra-Buildings. Steve was an avid racing fan, having enjoyed going to Madison International Speedway for many years, as well as a NASCAR fan, having many favorite drivers. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers, and he stayed a dedicated fan to Brett Favre, even when he started playing for the Vikings. Steve sported his purple number four with pride. Steve loved to play various games, canasta, mill bourne and euchre, to name a few. He was always eager to teach others to play, and when you could play good enough, he played to win. Steve also enjoyed playing the lottery and going to Friday night fish fries. He was an instigator and a practical jokester. Steve loved visiting with family and friends, and always offered a cold beer. His pride and joy was the love he had for his family. Steve loved Nancy dearly. He was proud of each one of his children and enjoyed every moment with his grandchildren, making each feel that they were very special. Steve is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Kelly Collins and Krysta (Aaron) Norland; son, Joe (Tara) Homme; grandchildren, Kayla, Devon, Cierra, Allyson, Steven, Chance and Camdyn; and a great-grandson Peyton, whom \"Papa\" Steven adored. He is also survived by his siblings, Larry, Aleta, Lowell, Fran, Anita, Jim, Dennis and Marge; and a host of additional family and friends, including his special friends at Sub-Zero. He was preceded in death by his son, Dave in 1969; and parents, Freeman and Harriet. The world has lost a great man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010, with Chaplain Annette Cleary presiding.
