Obituary

R. Gordon Martin Jr. 79, of Sanibel, FL passed away peacefully on July 5, 2010 with his wife Barbara at his side. Gordon was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was a loving friend and mentor to many. His love, generosity, strength and quiet demeanor will be sadly missed. A Life Celebration - the Sharing of Gordon will be held in Annapolis, MD on August 8th, 2010. Gordon was born in Kansas City, MO December 23, 1930. He graduated from Southwest High School and attended SMU in Dallas, TX where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He later joined the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1959 he moved his family to Dallas where he worked in Commercial Real Estate, started his own factoring business, and enjoyed many summers boating on Lake Texoma. In 1969 he moved back to Kansas City and became president of Realex Corp. He served as a board member at United Missouri Bank and the Yellow Freight Co, and also served as President of the Kansas City Art Institute. After retiring he lived in Annapolis, MD for 20 years where he served as Vice President of the Heart Association of Baltimore and enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway. He then moved to Sanibel, FL where he continued his quest for adventures on the high seas and calm waters.The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, PO Box 150 , Sanibel FL 33957, www.crowclinic.org. We're so sorry to hear of Gordon's passing, that was very unexpected, Gordon was a great man and will be missed by all, I'm really glad I got to see him @ the goat ranch a few years ago,many fond memories of him when I was young, He taught me how to shoot a rifle and getting on to Larry for getting the tractor stuck in the timber was a couple of them ,

Our sincere thoughts are with your family at this sad time! . I remember Gordon came to my 4th grade class and gave a slide show on his trip to Africa! It was a real success and so kind of him to do. I also remember Gordon at lake in Texas and the Houseboat! These are very fond memories from my childhood of a very kind and interesting person. Gretchen and Knut
