Obituary

Reek, Rodney R.MADISON- Rodney R. Reek, age 74, of Madison, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Ellen and Peter Johnson Hospice Care Residence from lung cancer. He was born on February 7, 1936, in Marshfield, the only child of Sidney and Mildred (Gallatin) Reek. Rod graduated from Marshfield Senior High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army in Company D, 2nd Battalion, 10th Infantry from 1955 to 1957. On May 17, 1958, Rod married Marjorie Odash at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Rod worked most of his career as Chief Investigator for the State of Wisconsin Office for Consumer Protection in the Attorney General's Office. When Rod retired in 1993, after 30 years with the State, he was commended for his exemplary service and efforts in the creation and development of the Office of Consumer Protection. Rod loved to golf and was a member of MARGA (Madison Area Retiree Golfers Association). The highlight of his golf career was on August 8, 2007 with a hole-in-one on the 17th hole at the Odana Golf Course. He was also very active with Messiah Lutheran Church and the Covered Bridge Condominium Association. Rod enjoyed woodworking and now several of his pieces are cherished treasures. He loved to travel, with Hawaii as a favorite destination. Rod is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marge of Madison; daughter, Sara (Joseph) DiCecco and their children, Anna, Marissa, and Nicholas, all of Rochester, Minn.; daughter, Amy (Mark) Terpening and their children, Benjamin, Kaitlyn, and Hannah, all of Waunakee; daughter Emily (Greg) Gunderson and their daughter, Mary Grace, all of Savage, Minn.; uncle, Wally (Shirley) Reek of Marshfield; aunt, Ruth Dix of Marshfield; sister-in-law, Joan (William) Ebner of Cameron; brother-in-law, Jerry (Pam) Odash of Andover, Minn.; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., at MESSIAH EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Rd., Madison, on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, with Rev. Jeff VandenHeuvel presiding. Entombment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Monday, July 26, 2010, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be designated at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church. "I think I'll go out and hit a few."
