Obituary
MADISON- Doris Aikins, age 98, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Nazareth House in Stoughton. She was born on April 19, 1912, in Viroqua, the daughter of Jess and Greta (Welch) Deaver. Doris married Glenn G. Aikins, in Viroqua, and after marriage they moved to Madison where they lived the remainder of their lives. She graduated from Viroqua High School. Doris enjoyed arts and crafts and gardening. She was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and was the "quintessential church basement lady." Doris and Glenn were part of the founding members of the church, volunteering in many capacities over the years. She is survived by her son, Bob (Natalie); daughter-in-law, Meg Aikins; grandchildren, Pamela (Jim Carlson) Aikins, Tim Aikins, Kimberly Aikins, and Rob (Amie) Aikins; and great grandchildren, Ian, Nina and Rose Aikins-Carlson, Collin and Connor Aikins and their mother, Jennifer (Roger) Meyer. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; parents; son, Ronald Aikins; brother, Ray Deaver; and sister, Naomi Christenson. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. at ST. LUKES EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 4011 Major Ave., Madison, on Sunday, July 11, 2010. Entombment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Sunday. Memorials may be made to St. Lukes Episcopal Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Nazareth House Staff for all of their wonderful care of Doris.
